The Kedar temple is one of the holiest temple in India and is based the lord Shiva. The temple is 3538 metre above from the sea level. In 12 Jyotirlingas the kedarnath is also a jyotirlinga which is supposed to be pious place. It is in very height in the hills of rudraprayag state uttarakhand.
In Hindu epic it is famous because when the pandava had the sin of killing there brothers, that time shrine Shiva was not in the mood to meet the pandavas & was ignoring them and hide in kedarnath. But the pandavas was very clever and they knew that the lord Shiva is in kedarnath so they went there and found him, and got the remission from Shiva. Then the pandavas went to swarg from that place which is now known as swargarohini. The re-established of the temple had done by the Adi Shankaracharya. The trance of Adi sankaracharya and Abhinav Shankar had made there. The temple is in between three peaks named as Kedar Parvat (22000foot), kharchakund (21600 foot), Bharatkund (22000foot). The height of the temple is 85ft, 187ft wide & 12ft thick walls. The design of the wall is based in katyuri shaili. There are five rivers in the way of kedar which is the parts of Gange River (mandakini, madhuganga, kheerganga, saraswati, swarngauri).
6 km far then kedarnath there is a place named as chaukhamba parvat where the vasuki tal exists. In the pond many brahma kamal grows there.
Many people come to visit and take blessings from lord Shiva and other god-goddess. The time of closing the kedarnath temple is in bhai dooj at diwali. When the doorway of kedarnath closes then the worship again begins in ukhimath omkareshwar temple. It is believed that in whole life if whoever visits kedarnath will get the easy way to get salvation. Devotees come every year in a very big crowd and it makes the income of local people live in Rambada-guptkashi & kedar valley.
The route of Kedarnath is very tough and there is no way of travelling in vehicle from Gaurikund. The on foot way is only available there. The way starts from haridwar to rudraprayag (144km) then guptkashi (34km)- sonprayag (25km)-gaurikund (5km) then 17 km onfoot way.
